John      I have read your blog and found it interesting and informative. While Matthews getting 33 years is a decent sentence I cannot for the life of me see how the judge didn’t think it was an ‘exceptional crime’, how worse could it have been. Hoarse sentence of 17 years was definitely not enough. She was his accomplice in this murder in every way and made it worse with her constant lies. Why she didn’t get the same as him is beyond belief. It seems absurd that a Jury can’t come to their own decision and was given 21 yes and no questions.

Nclloyd                French intelligence estimates that Syria has more than 1,000 tons worth of chemical weapons (The Daily Telegraph) including mustard, sarin and VX nerve gas – “one of the deadliest substances known to man”. It is thought that putting these beyond use, even in peacetime, would take years!

The main argument is being “blurred” by this idea of the weapons being given up. A political leadership that orders the use of chemical weapons in the first place is the problem, rather than “the ingredients themselves”. The world can supposedly have Assad’s chemical weapons providing we do no more than grumble about it! Surely military action is the only real way to show rogue states that the use of such weapons will not be tolerated?

How sad that we so easily sidestep the fact that killing innocent civilians is barbaric in any form, and rather than addressing this about his regime we consider it ok to just ask Assad if he would “please kill his enemies using conventional means.” How truly awful for those who have no choice but to live in his country and receive no help whatsoever from the rest of the world. They lend to people who are desperate & most of who, have no way to pay the money back or can’t cover the interest payments. The Companies charge 5000% interest so people often lose control of the debt, which I feel, as well as the UK Govt feels, is incorrect & unscrupulous. So, there are going to be new Laws going through the Courts about how much interest these nasty Companies can charge. So I agree with you, better regulation is the key!! Hope it happens quickly!!
