In the Gutter

The
so called ‘journalists’ who cynically put the plight of Paul Gascoigne on the
front pages of the newspapers can be assured that they are in the gutter not
him. The man is in trouble. He needs help not a downwards push. He is a self
admitted alcoholic who is drinking and he will be in despair. Putting the searchlights
on him is one of the cruellest acts that the press have ever enacted. No one
can stop him drinking other than himself, but he needs people to lend a hand to
get back on the wagon and stay there, and that won’t happen through destructive
publicity.
