The ‘expected’ news that David Beckham has signed for Paris Saint-Germain was trounced by his commendable announcement that he is donating his wages to a French children’s charity. Although this is only part of his income of course it is nevertheless a magnanimous gesture that sets him apart from the bulk of the miscreant football playing fraternity. Without being critical, one can’t help but ask “Why not a British children’s charity or Great Ormond Street Hospital, which has an international role in looking after children?” The information that he commented that he couldn’t play in the Premiership because he couldn’t play for another club against Manchester United, is a bit sad really, as he was booted out of there (when Alex Ferguson decided Beckham’s image was a threat – an act that could have crashed our David’s football career!): what will happen if ManU and PSG both get through in the Champions League I wonder?
